DFI Session 4 Dealing with Data.

Today's session was again rather intense and full on. As usual we started with karakia and then broke off into our digital bubbles for WWW. That was the fun part and also a time to reflect and share our PMIs.

The Topics today consisted of Manaiakalani pedagogical Tohatoha Sharing
Lockdown demonstrated sharing explosion. Newsletter preseneted. Sharing since time began - Things that we remember, Social Media was the place to be to share our lives, this was an additional medium for sharing. 1 - 1,  class - class,  school - school, local community - local community   digital - beyond global

Why was Blog chosen as a sharing tool for learners? "Googlr Searches" Sharing to finish learning, Sharing to Learn
Hapara - Making Groups
Google Forms - Creating forms

MyMaps.google.com was the Deep Dive of the session where we had to create our own Map with 5-6 destinations. I decided to create some places that might be interesting to visit off the beaten track in Windy Wellington.

Other creators were able to go to maps globally.

Google sheets presented by Gerhard was next and this was very difficult to comprehend even though I thought I had a good understanding of how to add data, analyse it use charts and write something about what the stats showed. Totally lost the plot from having a play on there. The task was to use the blog entries from one of my students, insert a chart and then add it to my Professional Blog. I discovered that the student who I chose for stats had very little having only started this term to add blogs which is why the graph is a bit scarce. More practice to get it right.

DFI Day 3 MEDIA

Today's Topic was Media

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

There was a number of gems that I picked up today on Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy, as it was related to create and how it is important to bring out the creativeness in our learners and as teachers. Over 60 years ago - The heART of the Matter which has lead to "Creators of content, not merely Consumers" Here are a few of the key pointers for me in Dorothy's presentation.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I learnt more about the protocols for using online videos, privacy, sites for kids, and the different ways of presenting either on YouTube, Google Draw and Google Slides as well as How to Live Stream.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?                                                                                                 I want to be able to implement the animation which I had a first try at today in the Google Slides bubble. I think that once students have made their google slides presentations on their scienctific investigations they could put some of it into an animation. This way they are not only submitting a report but also being creative with their findings and having some fun with it.  The Google Draw is also another tool that I could and should use more of with my students but I need to plan plan PLAN.

Workflow in My Personal Life                                                                                                      Transitioning from online learning in the past 6 weeks while we were in Lockdown was an eye opener and also learning in a different way which seemed to be the change of understanding how learners adjusted to not being at school and working from home. Personally I enjoyed the online learning and teaching from home but have had to adjust to the transitioning of returning to school where the workflow is slowly building up into pockets of activities and tasks on and offline. I think someone on the course said today that there wasn't enough hours in a day to complete everything. But I believe through effective planning and using the available tools somehow we will get there. Thanks to Dorothy and all the facilitators who presented and gave advice in today's sessions.  Easing the workflow in more ways than one!

DFI Day 2 WORKFLOW

Today's topic was WORKFLOW

What I learnt today was there are so many tools that can clog up the flow of your work. But with organization skills and knowing what actually is available to help with being an effective teacher can be very useful especially with Managing our Calendars and Taming our Tabs.

Google keep: Another useful tool.

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani Great Kaupapa and pedagogy?
Thanks to Kerry who presented more on this. I could understand the acronyms to help me understand Learn, Create Share which PCKmarries up with RATE: Recognise Amplify Turbocharge Effective Practice

PCK: Pedagogical Content Knowledge

HLPS: High Leverage Practices

Connected------------>Ubiquitous--------------Visible --------------->Empowered
Create Share Learn

Effective Teaching Practise ------Connecting to the Wider Commuinity of Manaiakalani and sharing the knowledge for others.

Turbo Charge: --------Redefinition--------- Technology allows for the creation of new tasks previously . inconceivable.
---------Modification--------Technology allows for significant task redesign.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
After doing the record and then actually viewing both myself and our facilitators presentation, I have a lot of work to do with presenting useful information and showing more of the students blog and what she had completed but more so the feedback and what her achievements had generated from those viewing her blog.

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  Everything that I can possibly remember today I could use for my learners.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? Being more organized with apps and online available tools that won't create over flow but as Gerhard mentioned, will make us work smarter. Being able to use Google Meet effectively through understanding Etiquette, Access, Screen, Recording and use of Meet Extensions. And finally thanks to Makaore: knowing how to embed a video onto this blog was a challenge but happy to celebrate that "I did it!"

Digital Fluency Intensive Learning Day 1

Learning from the experts was very intense but satisfying that there is a lot to learn to be able to keep up with the young digital experts in my classes. I enjoyed the different sessions that were covered today and understanding the history and pedagogy behind Manaiakalani. My create today has a mix of our school values and what we have been doing in our google hangouts.
